My name is Curtis I am alone it seems I don’t know if I’ve got family But no one really needs to feed me Coz there are mosquitoes everywhere I see!! Mozzies: Zzzzzzzzzzz, zzzzzzzzzz When I get that rumbling within I just Open my mouth, they fly right in! The air is thick with their whining And this feast is so easy I just gotta dig in The mozzies are swarming all around I can hear that tasty buzzing sound Mozzies: Zzzzzzzzzzz, zzzzzzzzzz (Curtis ‘omm nom nom nom-ing’) Zzzzzzzzzzz, zzzzzzzzzz Spoken: What’s that I see? A field of blueberries?! Ohhhhh the perfect dessert for me! After my feed of Mozzies Mozzies: Zzzzzzzzzzz, zzzzzzzzzz (‘Nothing like a good bit of lean protein!’ ‘Oh berries! Nom nom nom’) Zzzzzzzzzzz, zzzzzzzzzz Zzzzzzzzzzz, zzzzzzzzzz Zzzzzzzzzzz, zzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzz (into a chaotic buzzing)

The time has come to leave from here, The ice and snow are drawing near Chase the summer, chase the food Let's go where the mudflats good Let's go home to Roebuck Bay Come again to breed someday They left us here all on our own (But how will we know where to go?) A couple weeks and now we're grown (Maybe we feel magnetic pull) Follow mountains capped with snow, Follow rivers as they flow (No sleep, no food) When the clouds come fly above Stars will guide you there my love

Concrete concrete We don’t know Where did all our mudflats go? Under pavement, under road Nowhere for the tide Concrete concrete Don’t know know? There is nowhere else to go Benthic life needs space to grow Mud in which to hide Concrete concrete Can’t you see? Paving mud is starving me You don’t love what you don’t see Without mud we die Concrete concrete We don’t know Where did all our mudflats go? Under pavement, under road Nowhere for the tide How can you reclaim What you did not own Wasted space to you For us it is our home Part 2 No mud no food It’s gone for good No mud no food When it’s gone We are too

I’m a polychaet, but we may never meet Coz’ I stay real discrete In the mud beneath your feet Some of us are eat-EN By shorebirds it is true But baby don’t eat the green one! They taste like slimy spew! Well it ain’t grey crud, It’s all about the mud The Benthic Boogie CHORUS The Benthic Boogie (repeat 4 times) Well it ain’t grey crud! It’s ALL about the mud! The Benthic Boogie Come with me to the edge of the tide Where the bivalves like to hide I don’t mean to burst with pride But I can tell when there’s nothing inside Sew that mud with your bill! Pick em’ out! Eat your fill! Eat em’ whole, swallow em’ down! In your tummy, churn em’ around! Well it ain’t grey crud, It’s all about the mud The Benthic Boogie CHORUS I’m Curtis, the Curlew! Something I like to do Is crabbing! Yes it’s true! I hear you like crabbing too! I don’t need a giant hook I got my giant face Down burrows in the mud I probe it on the chase It looks funny, yes it’s true! But it’s a very useful tool! The Benthic Boogie! CHORUS SCAT BREAKDOWN Pack on the fat x4 SPOKEN VERSE When it’s time to migrate I gotta put on some weight Coz I have got a date! And in the arctic you can’t be late! So I go to my favourite crab hole And I probe my bill inside Gotta catch your fill now Look out! Here comes the tide! Well it ain’t grey crud! It’s ALL about the mud! The Benthic Boogie CHORUS Well it ain’t grey crud! It’s ALL about the mud! The Benthic Boogie Well it ain’t grey crud! It’s ALL about the mud! The Benthic Boogie

Goin’ down, down, down to Roebuck Bay Where the Snubbies play And the Dugong graze On seagrass that’s been hidden by the waves And oh the tide, the tide is high Ain’t nothin’ for a shorebird to do But sit idly by And digest the feast they got inside Coz’ see! They’ve gotta fly Far and High Flapping their tiny wings Coz’ baby these birds don’t glide And their fat stores are what gets em by Coz there may not be much to eat on the other side So please! Let em rest Let em rest And when you’re down in the bay Please show em’ some respect We’ve got to share And we’ve got to care Coz if we don’t start trying Soon they’ll no longer be tere So don’t you humbug the flocks Of Godwits and Knots As they sit there in their tight little flocks Don’t you know We’re all a part of the whole Gotta work together now And that’s something you can do when you go Down, down, down to Roebuck Bay Where the Snubbies play And the Dugong graze On the seagrass beds that lay hidden by the waves

Don’t worry, don’t you worry baby This happens all of the time These humans, they don’t wanna eat us They just keepin’ a watchful eye They tryin’ to plan for our future, Tryin to make sure we’re alright Extinction is forever baby So we gotta put up a fight ‘’Ooo ooo ooo!! Oooo ooo ooo!’’ See this one? I got it here Roebuck Bay 2005 Tried to stop in Saemangeum I tell you it’s lucky that I’m alive! There was a wall! The mud flat was gone! Most’ve my mates didn’t survive. But I found food in Yalu Jiang And so I’m here to keep the legend alive ‘’A wall?! Across the mudflats?’’ ‘’Are they only in the Yellow Sea?’’ You know they gotta band us, So they can learn about our ways Coz when they see a band they don’t have to try and catch us again! See these walls are popping up all over Coz humans they don’t value the mud and sea And kid, it’s not just in Asia! There’s one proposed here in Australi… ahhhhh…. Don’t you worry, don’t you worry baby This happens all of the time! I know that net seems evil, And you feel like you’ve been prodded and pried But the man won’t listen! You goitta have the facts on your side!! So they gotta catch us cause And folks wanna keep us alive! Alive! Alive! Alive! Alive!!

You’re movin too fast Way too fast baby Don’t cha know we gotta make this last At least until the arctic, coz you see, We gotta fly so far baby And I can’t quite get into this If I’m not dressed up in all my finery Whoooo! (Slow down Curtis, you're movin' too fast) You’re movin’ too fast baby You’re movin’ too fast Way too fast Curtis baby Can’t you see I’m not dressed for that? I gotta be feelin’ fat and fancy When I’m good and ready, We can flirt consensually Up on the arctic tundra Where these flirty dances are meant to be! And all the bivalves sing Slow down Curtis, you’re movin’ too fast See that Red Knot over there? Red breast on and quite tubby I know I’m a simple Curlew lass, Red’s really not my colour, but I like to get chubby Coz my conditioning helps me make it through all those different countries Some of the refuelling stops are bare So I’ll eat up now to make it there! See Great Knot over there? Such a romantic kind of guy Everybody just stops and stares at the hearts on his chest He catches everybody’s eye But he knows we’ve got a lot further to go Gotta make this feeling last 10,000k or so And if you’re lucky and you make it there alive Maybe then we can jive! I don’t want to get emotionally invested in this hemisphere… Slow down Curtis you’re movin' too fast
